The Amber Beverage group, through Whiskey Walshrecently introduced the oldest single malt in The Irishman range, in partnership with Aer Rianta International.
A statement from the group explains that The Irishman 22 Year Old Single Malt is exclusively bottled for The Irish Whiskey Collection and will only be available at The Loop at Dublin and Cork airports.
Distilled in 2001, the whiskey was then aged in American oak bourbon barrels for its first 21 years. The single malt was aged an additional year in Tawny Port casks sourced from the Douro Valley in Portugal.
The Irishman 22 Year Old Single Malt is the first double distilled expression in The Irishman range, and the finished product is bottled at cask strength, at 49.43% ABV. Each bottle is numbered and delivered in a leather case. The recommended retail price is €500.
Bernard Walsh, general manager, said he was delighted to have been able to obtain and finish this rare whiskey to his liking. “This takes The Irishman’s single malt portfolio to new ground. I know the discerning clientele of The Loop in Dublin and Cork will relish the opportunity to experience it and maybe even share some of it with best friends and family.
There will be a total of 600 bottles released on The Loop this year, and 600 more in 2024, Walsh explained. His tasting notes of Single Malt The Irishman 22 years old show that on the nose, it has aromas of dried fruits. It has a taste of candied sweet orange and warm spices, accompanied by dark chocolate.
