Irish single malt manufacturer Powerscourt Distillery has released the final expression of its Estate series, called The Gates.
A statement from Powerscourt notes that this blend is a marriage of bourbon and Amarone matured whiskies, one of the first whiskeys distilled in Wicklow in over a hundred years.
The Powerscourt Estate in Ireland showcases the intricate designs of Venetian doors, a testament to the artisans who created them. It is one of the main tourist attractions in the country.

And these doors were the inspiration for this latest version of the series.
Previously in the Powerscourt series there was the finished single grain Amarone ‘The Mill House’ and then the World Whiskey Award winning ‘The Italian Gardens’ which reflected the craftsmanship, heritage and provenance of their unique location on the Powerscourt Estate.
The Gates has a complex flavor profile that the distiller’s notes describe as summer fruit meringue, strawberry, cherry, plum, lime, mint, apple and cut hay . It tastes of vanilla, honey, custard drizzled with poached summer fruit with digestive biscuits and a fruit pudding finish giving way to sweet oak spices.
John Cashman, of Powerscourt Distillery, said The Gates was a fitting finale to their Estate series.
“With the introduction of our own Powerscourt distilled single malt whisky, we have continued our Amarone influence with a marriage of fully matured Amarone cask whiskey with matured ex-Bourbon whisky,” he added. “Following the release of our Fercullen Single Malt in April, The Gates sees us continue to release The Spirit of Wicklow to the world. »
The Gates has an alcohol content of 46% and has a recommended retail price of €75. The limited edition bottle is available across Ireland from the Powerscourt Distillery and Visitor Centre, as well as online.
