Hervé Gastinel, PONANT Global CEO, announced an important new role for Sarina Bratton AM as Senior Strategic Advisor and Honorary Chairman of the company for the Asia-Pacific region, formerly Executive Chairman of the region.
As PONANT’s Senior Strategic Advisor, Bratton will work closely with the Global CEO on global strategic opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, market intelligence and market development.
Hervé Gastinel commented on this appointment: “The growth of the Asia-Pacific region has had a profound effect on the accelerated growth of the company, since its acquisition by Artémis in 2015. Working closely with Sarina, I I have the greatest respect for her as a person. and as a professional. She leads by example, listens carefully, acts with integrity and places a strong emphasis on supporting everyone around her.
When Bratton started at PONANT 10 years ago and established the business entity and structure in Australia, the main focus at the time was on Australasia, with an extension thereafter across Asia-Pacific. At the time, the company owned four ships and APAC revenue was less than 1%. Today, the company has 13 vessels, including a 14th in development, and APAC revenue represents 20%, thanks to the successful strategies developed by Bratton as president and the contribution of his formidable management team.
“My long-term commitment to the small luxury expedition business was a natural fit with PONANT from the outset,” said Bratton. “It has been personally rewarding to watch the business grow, our people grow and the meaningful contribution our operations make to Australia and Australians.”
PONANT has the largest, most recent, most technical and most environmentally friendly fleet of small ships in the world. The fleet includes PONANT’s iconic three-master, Le Ponant, and the company’s newest vessel, the world’s only luxury icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot.
Widely regarded as a visionary businesswoman, Bratton used her passion for discovery to redefine the concept of small-ship luxury cruising. Her reputation, knowledge and expertise have played a major role in the development of the Australian cruise industry, from the early days of Cunard’s famous QE2 visiting Australia, to being the world’s first female to create a cruise company, which then marketed five-star Orion Expedition cruises.
