Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength Rye is a 10-year-old rye whiskey that will hit shelves nationwide in limited quantities this fall.
This new expression was aged in a single escalator-style warehouse before being bottled, unfiltered, at cask strength (121 proof).
Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength rye was barreled during the 2012 winter and fall seasons and deposited in one of the few remaining “Escalator Warehouses” in Clermont, KY – Warehouse V. This goal with this Storage style was consistency and “gentle mellowing” over time for this release’s small batch of barrels, the distillery says.
The result is an aroma of mellowed oak, sweet corn and vanilla supported by warm black pepper and toasted cinnamon spice, according to distillery notes. On the palate, flavors of brown sugar and honey, with notes of leather and charred oak, before a lingering finish of rye spice and vanilla.
Suggested retail price is $99.99 per 750 ml. bottle.
