Picture this: the table is set, wine in every glass, and a delicate filet mignon has been beautifully placed in the center of each plate. However, next to each set is a hodgepodge of paring knives from the utensil drawer. Or even worse: butter knives that just don’t cut (literally). If you’re ready to invest in high-quality cuts of beef, it’s probably time to get a great set of steak knives to elevate the experience, like our favorites from Messemeister.

Why They Won Our Review
When we tested steak knivesTHE Messemeister Avanta The set was the sharpest of the group, outperforming knives that cost five times as much. They cut the paper cleanly from top to bottom before and after our tests, and they sliced the steak easily. In addition to their exceptional performance, they are also well built with full tang construction giving them a solid weight and beautiful, durable pakka wood handles (which are reinforced with resin, adding to water resistance). During our initial testing, we were blown away by the affordability of these steak knives; now that they’re on sale for $20 off, it’s an even better deal.

FAQs
What is the best steak knife?
Our favorite steak knives are the Messemeister Avanta set of four pieces. They are incredibly sharp, beautiful to look at and comfortable to hold. They’re also durable with a water-resistant wooden handle and full-tang construction that adds strength and weight to the blade.
What’s better, straight or serrated steak knives?
During our tests, straight-edged blades fared much better than serrated or micro-serrated blades, provided they were sharp. Sharp, straight blades gracefully slice through each steak while serrated blades rip and tear muscle fibers. Duller straight blades, however, struggled to make incisions without extra elbow grease.
