CAIRO — At least 820 people were killed and 672 injured after a violent earthquake of magnitude 6.8 shook Morocco on Friday evening, the Interior Ministry said. The earthquake occurred around 11:11 p.m. local time. (6:11 p.m. Eastern) in Al Haouz province, about 70 kilometers south of Marrakech, decimating buildings and sending panicked residents to several towns fleeing into the street in search of safety. The earthquake was felt in Marrakech, as well as Casablanca, Rabat, Fez and other cities.
