A sneak peek at Food52’s new headquarters

Dear Food52ers,

After seven years crammed into a warren of offices in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, this spring we moved our headquarters to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Working with our good friends Brad Sherman and Nina Etnier at Floating Studio, who designed all of our previous offices, we decided to create a space focused on the core needs of our team and community: to gather, to create and to entertain. It took us three years (and heroic project management by our Director of Office Operations, Karen Levi!) to build a multitude of test kitchens, studios, and work and meeting spaces both deeply functional and welcoming, a place where you feel at home.

Now that we’re set up, I can’t wait to show you! In our new episode of Founder files, I’m showing you around our bright floor of Dock72, which is full of everything from vintage Dansk crockery to whisks and frying pans to comfy sofas. We created a cheat sheet for the appliances, furniture, and accessories I selected to outfit our new space. Read on to learn more about each of them. —Amanda Hesser, founder of Food52

Bertazonni Appliances

The family Italian brand Bertazonni is the manufacturer of choice for test kitchen ovens, cooktops and dishwashers. Their Double Electric Convection Wall Ovens, Fast microwave ovensand gas burner Hobs power all our recipe development and testing. You will also find their refrigerator in our team kitchen alongside the same appliances.

Delta® Faucets

THE Trinsic® Single Handle Pull Down Faucet, Broderick® Broderick® True Bar Kitchen Faucet and Two-Handle Pull-Deck Kitchen Faucet Delta® are installed throughout the test kitchen, our video studio sinks and our “Town Hall” space, where we gather for lunch and hold meetings.

Walker Zanger Tile

This backsplash brings a pop of color and texture to our office kitchen from a luxury tile manufacturer. Walker Zanger. Collections we have used throughout the office include City Bricks tiles, Velluto porcelain tiles and Robert AM Stern tiles.

Cosentino Counters

You will find products resistant to heat, scratches and stains Sirius Dekton Solid Collection counters in our test kitchen and Silestone Cincel Gray counters in our social kitchens and our town hall kitchens, both manufactured by Cosentino.

Katy Skelton Lighting

Katy Skelton Perry double wall lightmade in Savannah, Georgia, casts a warm glow in Food52’s entry area.

Carl Hansen & Son Furniture

Throughout the office, you’ll find corners perfect for our photoshoots, hosting guests, and impromptu meetings. Seating options include T-Chairs, Signature Chair and Sideways Sofa from Carl Hansen & Son.

Audo Copenhagen Furniture and lighting

In our first meeting space as you enter the office (which is filled with a rainbow of new and vintage items) Dance pieces), you’ll find more striking chairs and lighting from Audo Copenhagen like their comfy knitted chair, pictured, JWDA floor lamp and Eave sofa.

Hem Shelves and furniture

In our parents/meditation room, The hem The Zig Zag shelf is an elegant showcase for our vases and books. We also have their Bookmatch bench and Koti sofa.

Armadillo Carpet

To define and add warmth to our seats, we added these Armadillo rugs everywhere: the Atlas Classic collection rug, the Drift Classic collection rug, and the Agra Heirloom collection rug.

Normann Copenhagen Tables and seats

OUR Normann Copenhagen tables, including the Turn Table and Grow Table, are the perfect bases for accent pieces. We also have their Ace lounge chair.

TRNK Furniture

Right next to our bookshelf, filled with hundreds of cookbooks, sits this chocolate velvet Maura modular sofa from TRNK. We also have their Arc sofa.

Black house Seating and side table

To sit on the island in our social kitchen, we use industrial chic Black house Factory Twist stool. You’ll find their Evans Iron Pedestal Side Table nearby.

Uhuru Offices

Uhuru Sleek workstations are where much of the team works. The center console electrical panel can be cleverly covered when the laptops are gone. We also have their sit-stand team table for stand-up meetings.

Vermont Chart

In the gathering space of City Hall, we sit Vermont Tables Settle into a trestle table for lunch and mingle around the tables during the evenings. We also use their A-Frame table and their Dovetail table.

Calico Wallpaper

In Amanda’s office, the Moors wallpaper Calico acts as a magnificent pictorial backdrop.

Modern material And Floating Studio Material

For a perfect and luxurious addition to our cabinets, we used the Marcelle And Otto collections of buttons, hooks, handles, label holders and racks Modern material And Floating Studio.
